Emily Blitz, PsyD, PMH-C

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PsyD) with a certificate in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) providing psychodynamic and attachment-based treatment. I provide culturally sensitive and LGBTQIA+ affirmative care. In my private practice, I provide personalized psychodynamic psychotherapy tailored to each individual’s unique story and needs. I create a supportive, safe space where clients can explore their emotions, relationships, and personal growth at their own pace. I have completed specialized training in perinatal mood disorders and advanced perinatal psychotherapy through Postpartum Support International (PSI), which enriches my psychodynamic approach by deepening my understanding of perinatal emotional experiences and attachment dynamics during this critical period. In my practice, I work with adults across the lifespan, as well as expectant or new parents. Together, we thoughtfully explore the relationship one has with one’s own parents and family of origin—uncovering individual and intergenerational stories, and creating space for insight, healing, and connection.

I earned both my doctorate and master’s in clinical psychology from Adler University in Chicago, Illinois. During graduate training, I gained experience in college counseling, community mental health, and private practice settings. I worked extensively with cisgender women and trauma, completing a full-time clinical internship at a transitional housing facility for formerly incarcerated women. After graduate school, I completed a year-long fellowship at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis, followed by a postdoctoral residency at a group private practice specializing in relational psychotherapy and multiculturalism.

In addition to my private practice, I have supervised doctoral interns at an APA-accredited community mental health internship that provides comprehensive, trauma-informed care to primarily underserved and high-need neighborhoods. I have also served as an Associate Professor at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where I taught graduate courses on Organizational Psychology, clinical supervision, and professional practice.

Outside of my role as a psychologist, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, cooking new recipes, and catching up on books and TV.
